UFC and RIZIN vet Johnny Case is getting his shot at a $1,000,000 PFL prize.
MMA Fighting confirmed with Case’s manager Daniel Rubenstein that the 30-year-old lightweight has signed with the league to participate in it’s third season in 2020, following an initial report by ESPN.
Case was a part of the PFL’s inaugural season in 2018, though he was only able to fight once after he and fellow former UFC fighter Jason High were brought in to compete as a replacement bout for a canceled fight between Brian Foster and Ramsey Nijem. High would end up missing weight for the short-notice opportunity, resulting in Case claiming the last spot in that season’s lightweight playoffs by default.
In a quarterfinal bout—Case’s lone fight for the PFL to date—he fought eventual 2018 and 2019 champion Natan Schulte to a two-round majority draw, with Schulte advancing due to the judges’ overall decision (the standard PFL tiebreaker in the opening round of the playoffs). Case went on to win three straight fights with RIZIN, all by stoppage, before losing via TKO to Tofiq Musaev in the RIZIN Lightweight Grand Prix semifinals on New Year’s Eve.
“Hollywood” went 4-2 with the UFC during a stint from 2014 to 2017 and his pro record stands at 27-7-1.
