Finally, there’s a topic on which Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier can agree.
The topic? Their fights with Alexander Gustafsson.
Gustafsson stirred up trouble last week on Twitter when, in announcing he had signed a new contact with the UFC, he took a passive-aggressive swipe at Cormier, the current UFC light heavyweight champion.
That didn’t sit well with Cormier, who defeated Gustafsson via split decision in an epic five-round battle at UFC 192. Cormier pointed out that Gustafsson’s two most memorable matches were losses.
Alex, what exactly have you accomplished in your career? I’ve earned the right to retire on top. Your greatest accomplishment is two close losses. Congrats on the new contract, now go fight. It’s been two years. Enough with the social media. #gofight https://t.co/Uf2LJ31ALE

The other of those two losses, of course, was to Jones. That was a five-round war at UFC 159 which most consider to be on the short list of the greatest MMA fights of all-time.
Jones and Cormier, of course, are blood rivals whose acrimony has been well-documented over the years. But Jones, publicly sided with DC in his Twitter beef with Gustafsson. Jones piped up on Twitter on Monday night to basically tell Gustafsson to stay in his lane.
I don’t even like DC and I enjoyed this. Too funny Alex bring all your tough guy shit to the championship rounds next time https://t.co/CSHLq7HlB2

If nothing else, we know now what it will take to get Jones and Cormier to agree on something.
