Ultimate Fighting Championship legend Jose Aldo got a special retirement ceremony at UFC Rio.
Aldo (32-10) technically retired after a controversial decision loss against Aiemann Zahabi at UFC 315 in May. However, “The King of Rio” was granted the opportunity to make a special appearance at the Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro to lay down his gloves inside the Octagon in front of his home crowd. The former UFC featherweight champion was accompanied by his wife and daughter as the crowd went wild while paying tribute.
However, fellow countryman Deiveson Figueiredo seemingly doesn’t want Aldo to retire as he called out “Junior” after an upset win over Montel Jackson in the co-main event.
Aldo defended the World Extreme Cagefighting featherweight title twice and the UFC featherweight title seven times before his iconic loss against Conor McGregor in 2015. Aldo became the interim champion after McGregor vacated the belt, but lost two title fights against Max Holloway. “Junior” dropped down to bantamweight in 2019, where he only fell against elite competition like Merab Dvalishvili, Petr Yan and Mario Bautista.
