Jose Aldo vs. Renato ‘Moicano’ in the Works for UFC Fight Night Fortaleza Co-Main Event

An intriguing featherweight clash pitting Jose Aldo against Renato Carneiro has been targeted for UFC Fight Night in Fortaleza, Brazil, on Feb. 2.

Multiple outlets have confirmed the booking is in the works following an initial report from MMAjunkie.com on Wednesday. UFC Fight Night 144 takes place at Centro de Formacao Olimpica do Nordeste and is headlined by a bantamweight rematch between Renan Assuncao and Marlon Moraes. The card streams in its entirety on ESPN+.

After a brief skid saw him go 1-3 from 2015 to 2017 — with all three defeats coming in title bouts — Aldo returned to form at UFC on Fox 30, where he scored a technical knockout victory over Jeremy Stephens in the opening stanza of their July 28 encounter. Prior to his loss to Conor McGregor at UFC 194 in December 2015, the 32-year-old Brazilian won 18 consecutive fights.

Carneiro, 29, has lost just once in 15 professional outings. “Moicano” is 5-1 in UFC competition and is coming off a first-round submission of Cub Swanson at UFC 227 this past August. The American Top Team member was supposed to face Mirsad Bektic at UFC 231 before his opponent withdrew from the contest.
