After departing the confines of the UFC Octagon following a 10-year tenure with the promotion, Jorge Masvidal turned his attention to boxing. While his retirement from competition—issued after a decision loss to Gilbert Burns at UFC 287—was short-lived, he had some unfinished business with fellow UFC castout Nate Diaz.

The two have previous met atop UFC 244 for the inaugural symbolic “BMF” title, with Masvidal busting up Diaz over the course of 15 minutes to elicit a doctor stoppage intervention. The company Fanmio gave them the opportunity to run back their match, albeit in a boxing ring and not an MMA cage. The two toed the line on July 6, 2024, and Diaz secured the majority decision nod. According to both men, Fanmio never paid them their proper fight purses.
ESPN announced news of the progress of both arbitration cases the fighters had against Fanmio on Thursday. Florida judge Beatrice Butchko Sanchez awarded Masvidal a default judgment for over $5 million in his suit against Fanmio. The total dollar amount reached $5,316,268.24 specifically, plus any interest that will accrue following this judgment.
I am Altering the Deal…Pray I Don’t Alter It Any Further
Masvidal was supposed to receive a $6 million purse with the contingent of another million if he prevailed. Masvidal ended up losing on two of three scorecards, and Fanmio allegedly paid him $150,000 for an advance and a flat $1 million. It is unclear at this point whether Fanmio will be able to pay that over $5 million amount a year after the match took place, with most of its public social media activity going quiet since it sued boxer Ryan Garcia and Golden Boy Promotions for an unrelated matter.
This is similar to Diaz’ own case, as he is suing Fanmio for the same reasons—Diaz was reportedly owed more than $9 million, and his own arbitration reached a sum of $6 million plus costs and fees but is awaiting confirmation from a judge.
