Justin Gonzales, Steve Garcia to Meet for Vacant Featherweight Crown at LFA 85

Justin Gonzales will square off against Steve Garcia for the vacant featherweight title in the Legacy Fighting Alliance 85 headliner.

The promotion recently announced the pairing. The winner will become the fourth 145-pound champion in LFA history. LFA 85 takes place at the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colo., on April 3 and airs on UFC Fight Pass at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.

“Justin Gonzales and Steve Garcia are widely considered the top two featherweight prospects in MMA,” LFA CEO Ed Soares said in a release. “Gonzales has been fighting for nearly eight years and has never lost a fight, while Garcia made a huge statement in the first LFA headliner of 2020. Both men have also won in front of Dana White on the Contender Series. This will be one of the biggest title fights of 2020 and it’s coming to the Rockies on April 3.”

Gonzales owns an undefeated professional and amateur record. “J-Train” appeared on Season 3 of Dana White’s Contender Series, where he earned a unanimous verdict over Zach Zane on June 25.

The 27-year-old Garcia kicked off his 2020 campaign with a second-round stoppage of Jose Mariscal in the LFA 80 headliner on Jan. 17. However, “Mean Machine” missed weight for that bout, just as he did prior to a victory over Desmond Torres on the Contender Series in August. Garcia enters LFA 85 on a four-bout winning streak.
