Katlyn Chookagian vs. Maycee Barber set for UFC 299

Katlyn Chookagian is being tasked with slowing a rising contender for her return fight.

MMA Fighting has confirmed with sources with knowledge of the matchup that Chookagian (18-5) is set to fight Maycee Barber (13-2) in a flyweight bout at UFC 299 on March 9. A location for the event is still to be announced, but Miami is rumored to be the front-runner to host.

MMA Mania was first to report the matchup.

Chookagian is currently No. 7 at 125 pounds in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings, with Barber a few spots behind her at No. 10.

When Chookagian steps into the octagon, it will mark her first fight in 17 months. She is coming off of a unanimous decision loss to Manon Fiorot at UFC 280, a setback that snapped a four-fight win streak. The one-time flyweight title contender owns a UFC record of 11-5.

Barber has steadily been working her way to a title shot, with wins in her past five outings. She won both of her fights in 2023, earning a split decision against Andrea Lee and following that with a second-round TKO of Amanda Ribas.

UFC 299 is headlined by a bantamweight championship bout as Sean O’Malley defends his title against longtime rival Marlon “Chito” Vera.
