Chimaev won the middleweight title with a dominant performance against Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 319 this past August. Meanwhile, Pereira reclaimed the light heavyweight title by stopping Magomed Ankalaev in 80 seconds at UFC 320 in October. Chimaev has since been calling for a light heavyweight title shot against Pereira. However, Pereira said that Chimaev has yet to earn a fight against him. “Poatan” instead offered to compete in a charity jiu-jitsu match against Chimaev.

Chimaev (15-0) believes the UFC wants to save Pereira from him. “Borz” also dismissed Pereira’s grappling match offer, claiming it’s not their job. Chimaev accused Pereira of ducking him, noting that the Brazilian had previously agreed to fight former champ Du Plessis. The undefeated Chechen-born claims his Instagram posts generate more views than Pereira’s fights.
Under UFC Protection?
“UFC don’t want to give [Pereira] to me,” Chimaev told ESPN. “And the guy say, ‘I want to come to your jiu-jitsu, wrestling, grappling.’ I don’t know what. This grappling, jiu-jitsu not our job, our job is UFC fighting. He accepted the fight with Du Plessis, but now he says Khamzat is not a good fight. He says he’s more famous than me and that’s why I’m using his name. Bro, if I just say hi in my story in Instagram, I get more views than his fights.”
Pereira (13-3) is currently rallying for a super fight at the White House against Jon Jones, who is more than happy to oblige.
