Chimaev, who is eyeing a light heavyweight title fight against Pereira, hinted that he is coming for one of the Brazilian’s titles. Chimaev wrote in the comments: “-1.”
Championship Paths
Pereira (13-3) won the middleweight title against Israel Adesanya within a year of his UFC debut. “Poatan” lost the title in their rematch and moved up to light heavyweight. Pereira won the light heavyweight title against Jiri Prochazka and defended it thrice within a year before losing to Magomed Ankalaev earlier this year. “Poatan” reclaimed his belt by finishing Ankalaev in 80 seconds in their rematch at UFC 320 this past October.
Meanwhile, Chimaev (15-0) had a lengthy route to the title, as his career was mostly plagued by injuries. “Borz” earned a title shot in just his third middleweight fight, when he dethroned Dricus Du Plessis via a dominant decision to win the middleweight title at UFC 319 this past August. The undefeated Chechen-born has since been eyeing a move to 205 pounds to challenge Pereira.
