On Friday, ESPN announced that the promotion has added a bantamweight battle between Macy Chiasson (6-1) and Sijara Eubanks (5-4) to its Sept. 5 event. The UFC Fight Night card on this date is scheduled for the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
“The Ultimate Fighter: Heavy Hitters” featherweight winner Chiasson bounced back from her first career defeat with a one-sided drubbing of late replacement Shanna Young in February. For that bout, Chiasson was originally set to square off against former flyweight champ Nicco Montano, but Montano suffered an injury and Young stepped in on fight week. The Louisiana native burst out of the gate with a trio of finishes against Pannie Kianzad, Gina Mazany and Sarah Moras before Lina Lansberg hander her a loss last September. Chiasson’s record is evenly distributed, with two wins by knockout, two by submission and two more on the scorecards.
A finalist of her own season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” Eubanks lost a championship opportunity when she was hospitalized due to her weight cut. “SarJ” made good in her return by taking decisions over top-ranked flyweights Lauren Murphy and Roxanne Modafferi, but a move up to bantamweight came with pair of defeats to Aspen Ladd and Bethe Correia that derailed her hopes of getting back in a title picture. In May, Eubanks captured a decision against Moras, and she has gone the distance in each of her last six bouts.
The UFC Fight Night card on Sept. 5 is headlined by a heavyweight tilt between Alistair Overeem and Augusto Sakai. Going down at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, other key matchups on the card include Michel Pereira taking on Zelim Imadaev at welterweight, while Julia Avila locks horns with Montano at bantamweight.
