Megan Anderson Repeats Offer of Rematch With Cat Zingano

Megan Anderson got her first Ultimate Fighting Championship victory on Saturday night at UFC 232 against the veteran Cat Zingano although it came through bizarre circumstances.

Early in the first round, Anderson unleashed one of her trademark long leg kicks which ended up injuring Zingano’s eye. As “Alpha” was in clear discomfort against the cage, the Aussie looked for the kill. Zingano was not effectively defending herself and the referee was forced to end the fight. It was later revealed Zingano’s eyelid had been sliced open by the Aussie’s toenail as a result of the head kick. The controversial outcome was discussed widely on social media, with some fans claiming a poke in the eye by a toe should be treated like a finger poke, where the referee might call a quick timeout for it to be assessed.

The former Invicta FC featherweight champion spoke to Joe Rogan at the conclusion of the fight and offered a rematch with Zingano due to the circumstances of the stoppage. The 28-year old Australian reaffirmed offer of a rematch in a post on her Instagram account.

“A win is a win,” Anderson wrote. “Not how we wanted it to go but we’re just doing our job. All well wishes to Cat and hope she is ok. Like I said post fight, more than happy to give it to her again if that’s what she wants.”
