Still sporting bruises from his knockout loss to Charles Oliveira, Michael Chandler vowed to move on in the wake of his title setback at UFC 262.
In a message on his official Instagram account, the three-time Bellator champ wrote the “best is yet to come” and shot a video with a personal message to his fans, whom he thanked profusely for their support.
“Hitting the ground running after a tough weekend, a tough loss, falling short, a great opportunity that we missed the mark, and that’s just the way life is,” he said. “Sometimes, life’s going to deal you those kinds of things. Sometimes, you’re going to encounter scars, bruises – but the scars and bruises remind them that you’re still here, you’ve still got a smile on your face, and you’re still moving forward with complete disregard to previous failures and future opposition.”
Chandler’s loss to Oliveira came in his second octagon appearance after a smashing octagon debut at UFC 257 in which he knocked out Dan Hooker in the first round. He had knocked out his previous two opponents in Bellator before becoming a free agent and signing with the UFC.
Chandler nearly put Oliveira away in the first round of this past Saturday’s headliner, surviving a choke attempt to land a flurry of strikes that earned him 10-8 scores on two judges’ scorecards.
But in the opening exchange of the second round, Oliveira connected with a left hook that dropped Chandler, and as he attempted to escape, Oliveira landed another shot that floored him.
After the event, Chandler attended the post-fight press conference and said he would be a UFC champion before his career ended.
