Michael Page Admits Fight with ‘Wonderboy’ Has Potential to Be ‘Boring’

Contrary to popular belief, Michael Page claims a fight against Stephen Thompson could be “boring.”

Page made his Ultimate Fighting Championship debut at UFC 299 on March 9 against Kevin Holland. “Venom” completely outclassed the American on the feet over the course of three rounds, also putting on a show with his signature showboating. While he believes he could have gotten the finish, Page thinks he has done enough to draw potential opponents rather than him having to chase anyone.

At the moment, Page doesn’t have a particular opponent in mind.

“Nobody specific,” he told Sportsnet “I don’t care to call anybody’s name. I feel like I put a spotlight on myself, there will be people that are drawn to me. I want that challenge, so let’s go from there.”

Page’s performance against Holland immediately gave rise to talks of a booking with fellow elite striker Stephen Thompson. However, Page claims that a clash between the two could lead to an anticlimactic outcome. According to the former Bellator star, the matchup of two precision strikers could end up in a game of stalking marked with inactivity.

“You know what’s interesting and I always [say] this, a positive and a positive doesn’t always make a positive,” Page said. “Because we are such similar-styled fighters, it could potentially be a boring fight because we’re going to be faking, we’re going to know so much. We’re going to be reading so much between each other, that only really elite athletes are going to look at it and be like, ‘Oh okay, I see what just happened.’ But nothing much is happening. So I don’t actually think it’s going to be a great fight, and I love that guy too much to want to kick him. I don’t know. Like I said, the future, we’re all prizefighters, so whatever happens, happens. But for right now, that’s not really a focus.”
