Michael Page has his sights set on two of the top welterweights over the past several years.
“MVP” is coming off a successful middleweight debut at UFC Saudi Arabia, handing Shara Magomedov his first loss with a dominant performance en route to a unanimous decision win. Despite many believing Page could have a successful run at 185, the longtime Bellator star has repeatedly said he wants to return to the welterweight division.
The opponents he’s hoping for? Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington.
“I don’t know if that last fight worried a few people, but everyone seems a bit silent,” Page said at the UFC London Fan Q&A. “There’s many names out there: I think me and Usman would be a good fight. I want to punch Colby in his face for some reason, I don’t know why. There’s guys [that are] out there, and I’m just waiting for them to respond to the call.”
Page is 2-1 since signing with the UFC, which includes a decision win over Kevin Holland at UFC 299 this past April, but fell short in an ultra-competitive fight with Ian Machado Garry two months later at UFC 303.
If Page is to fight Covington, he’d want to create a highlight-reel finish similar to his skull-denting finish of Evangelista Santos at Bellator 158 in July 2016 — which ended up being the final fight for “Cyborg.”
“I’m hoping for a repeat of a jumping knee to the face,” Page explained. “You all seen how that went, so I’m hoping that way. …
“[I’m hoping for] two more big fights [this year]. If I get to punch Colby in the face, and then get somebody else that’s ranked in the top-10, top-five, then that’s a good year.”
