Miesha Tate Would Take Ronda Rousey’s Career Over Amanda Nunes’

Retired former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate has admitted Ronda Rousey’s career path is more appealing to her than current dual-division champion Amanda Nunes.

Tate and Rousey had a tense relationship at the best of times when they were competing, with “Rowdy” submitting Tate in both of their fights. During Rousey’s two-year reign as the UFC bantamweight champion, she was considered the most dominant female fighter in history and one of the most important stars in putting women’s MMA onto the map.

Fast forward to today and Nunes has achieved everything Rousey has and more by simultaneously capturing not only the bantamweight belt but the featherweight belt and knocking out the most feared female MMA fighter on the planet in Cristiane Justino along the way.

Despite Nunes becoming more successful than Rousey inside the cage, Tate explained on a recent edition of SiriusXM’s “MMA Tonight” that Rousey’s financial success is more appealing to her than Nunes’ success inside the cage (via MMAJunkie.com):

“Let’s take the names out of it,” Tate said. “Would you rather win every bout – let’s assume we’re talking greatest of all time – while (Ronda) was winning and she gets 100 percent return on it, or would you rather put 100 percent effort into it and get 50 percent return on it?

“So I’m looking at this, and I’m gonna say, you know what? I’d rather have Ronda’s career. If you ask me who I’d rather be, I would say Amanda. But if you’re talking about I’m gonna put 110 percent into this and what do you want to get out of it? Do you want to get 100 percent out of it, or do you want to get 50 percent out of it? I’m gonna say I want 100 percent.”

Nunes is set to defend her 135-pound gold against Holly Holm at UFC 239 on July 6 and has stated she would be interested in a rematch against “Cris Cyborg” down the line.
