There was a little added animosity between Mike Perry and Donald Cerrone heading into their co-headlining bout at UFC Fight Night 139 in Denver.
That bad blood stemmed from Cerrone’s split with Jackson-Wink MMA in Albuquerque, N.M. “Cowboy” didn’t have much positive to say about head striking coach Mike Winkeljohn while revealing that his longtime camp picked Perry over him.
That led to some interesting pre-fight buildup — mostly on Perry’s end as Cerrone remained largely indifferent. However, fight night belonged to Cerrone, as he reversed into top position after being taken down before eventually transitioning to an armbar. Perry attempted to slam his way out of the predicament, which only made things worse, and Cerrone secured the tapout 4:46 into the opening stanza.
It was an emotional win for Cerrone and his hometown crowd at the Pepsi Center in Denver.
“They love Cowboy everywhere, but they really love Cowboy in Denver,” UFC President Dana White said on Fox Sports 1. “The heat going into this fight, the animosity between the camp and Cowboy, and for him to go in and pull off the submission gangster style was pretty incredible.”
It also might put Perry on the shelf for a little while. “Platinum” took to Twitter after the fight to tell Cerrone that “you broke my damn arm.”
Good job @Cowboycerrone you broke my damn arm

Perry, who has lost three of his last four Octagon appearances, later vowed to come back stronger.
“Unfortunately it was my burden to face defeat last night,” he wrote. “My return will be a ferocious [one].”
