Welcome to the latest edition of Missed Fists where we shine a light on fights from across the globe that may have been overlooked in these hectic times where it seems like there’s an MMA show every other day.
Last week, I mused that one of the many, many, many reasons that it’s unlikely I’d ever take part in an amateur fight is my perfectly reasonable fear of being on the wrong end of a highlight-reel knockout. I like to think of myself as someone who isn’t too self-conscious, but starring in a viral KO clip is not on my bucket list.
After watching some of these recent boxing highlights, consider my reservations doubled when it comes to the sweet science.

Osleys Iglesias vs. Evgeny Shvedenko
Knockout reactions don’t get much more concerning than this one, folks.

From a boxing event in Montreal, Quebec, Osleys Iglesias landed a perfect check right hook that dropped Evgeny Shvedenko to the canvas. Shvedenko wasn’t left lying though. He immediately began to spasm, his limbs jutting out every which way before he settled down with a completely glazed over look in his eyes. The good news is that we see Shvedenko quickly being attended to, and it’s not long before he’s helped back to his feet.
As much as we tend to make light of even the most vicious knockouts (I’m looking at you, Ray Rod!), this one is just flat-out scary and I’d like to think off limits when it comes to memeing. On the other hand, we’re the same community that still giggles at the thought of Brendan Schaub chasing butterflies, so who am I to judge?
Cuba’s Iglesias is no stranger to highlight-reel finishes. He’s now 10-0 with only one of his pro bouts going the distance.
Vladimir Hernandez vs. Guido Schramm
While we’re dabbling in absurd boxing KOs (speaking of which, did you see what Zhilei Zhang did to Deontay Wilder?), let’s head down to Plant City, Fla., to—appropriately enough—watch Vladimir Hernandez plant Guido Schramm face-first into the mat.
Hernandez expertly holds the center of the ring, forcing Schramm to engage on his terms, and when the timing was right he blistered him with a left hand on the button. Don’t really think we needed to start counting there, just get the doctors in.

Joseph Magro vs. Renaud Guillier
Hey, don’t forget MMA fighters can do the face-plant thing too!
From a King of Fighters event in Brest, France, Joseph Magro snuck a right hand around Renaud Guillier’s defenses that ended this one a little over 90 seconds into the opening round. Magro had a little pep in his step as he walked off and it was well-deserved.
Watch how he peppers Guillier’s guard with his left before letting his right go. Guillier never adjusted and Magro made him pay.
Nikola Joksovic vs. Stefan Negucic
There are just so many ways to misplace your consciousness in a fight, something Nikola Joksovic reminded us of when he choked Stefan Negucic out with an arm-triangle choke at Fight Nation Championship 17 in Belgrade, Serbia.
Once Joksovic broke Negucic’s grip on his opposite wrist, that was a wrap (no pun intended). Joksovic already had a tight squeeze going, so it was only a matter of time before Negucic went night-night.
Negucic, 29, is making waves as FNC’s welterweight champion. He’s 15-0 with 13 finishes and it’s only a matter of time until larger promotions come calling.
Krzysztof Piton vs. Mateusz Dominiak
As awesome as Joksovic’s arm-triangle was, the award for most persistent submission of the week has to go to Krzysztof Piton.
From Babilon MMA 45 in Nowy Targ, Poland:
Once Piton got it in his head to grab Mateusz Dominiak’s leg, he was not letting go no matter what. We’ve seen fighters grounded-and-pounded into oblivion for being too stubborn to release a submission, but in this case, it worked!
Piton was rewarded for his stick-to-it-iveness when he finally managed to roll into position to really crank an ankle lock and force Dominiak to tap. This was the pro debut for both fighters, so it’s unlikely they’ll ever experience an exchange like that again, but it’s still a fun one to watch.
Two familiar names close out our submission section this week. Look, it’s big show veterans Dan Moret and Raush Manfio!
Xtreme Fighting Championships has done an excellent job of bringing in former UFC, Bellator, and PFL fighters, and there event last Friday in Detroit was no different. Moret, who went 1-5 across his Bellator and UFC runs, got the better of Manfio on this day, tapping him out in 59 seconds and becoming the first fighter to put the Brazilian slugger away inside the distance.
This was Manfio’s first fight since his highly controversial decision loss to close friend Natan Schulte, and it’s a performance he’ll want to forget. It’s been a real fall from grace for the 2021 PFL lightweight champion, but he’s only 32 so there are still better days ahead.
And hey, congrats to Moret on securing his first win since June 2022!

Abe Alsaghir vs. Jimmy Sandlin
Staying in Michigan, let’s head to Wayne to give props to 22-year-old lightweight Abe Alsaghir, who captured a vacant Lights Out Championship belt with a relentless ground attack that forced a stoppage of Jimmy Sandlin.
Alsaghir has stayed busy since debuting in April 2023, racking up five straight wins to follow up on an unblemished amateur career. Full disclosure, Alsaghir has made it a point to reach out to myself and other media members to keep us updated on his exploits, and, frankly, that’s something I encourage.
