Video: Modestas Bukauskas reacts to UFC release, injury; believes door open for return

Modestas Bukauskas knew his job was on the line ahead of his UFC Vegas 36 loss to Khalil Rountree, but it didn’t make the official word of his release from the promotion any easier.

The former Cage Warriors light heavyweight champion is no longer with the UFC following his third consecutive loss — an oblique kick TKO which led to surgery on his leg — and is on the road to recovery, which appears to be well ahead of schedule.

In an exclusive interview with MMA Fighting’s Mike Heck, Bukauskas gives his reaction to being cut from the roster, his timeline towards a return, the injury suffered in the loss to Rountree “not being as bad as it looked,” Paulo Costa’s big weight miss ahead of his UFC Vegas 41 main event bout with Marvin Vettori, the oblique kick as a technique, finding silver linings in the situation, if he would be interested in signing deals with Bellator or the PFL, the road leading back to the octagon, and more.
