After being submitted by Islam Makhachev in the first round of the UFC 311 main event, Renato “Money Moicano” Carneiro returned to routine, recording a video on his YouTube channel.

“Moicano’s” usual sincerity and humor is evident in the title of the video, “Fui Jambrolhado,” which translates to: “I got my ass kicked.” The Brazilian lightweight began the 18-minute video by making it clear that he was only there because he didn’t win the fight.
“Since I lost, let’s return to YouTube,” he said. “If I had won, I obviously wouldn’t be here talking to you today. So if you like this channel, thank f—ing Makhachev.”
After providing all the details of how he found out he would take Arman Tsarukyan‘s place, “Moicano” made an interesting comparison between the styles of Beneil Dariush — his original opponent — and Makhachev.
“I was very well-trained for a southpaw with excellent jiu-jitsu who was not so good at takedowns and who had two defeats by KO. Our strategy was to knock Dariush out standing up,” said the American Kickboxing Academy athlete.
Moicano made no excuses for the defeat, however.
“I was very well prepared,” he said. This was one of my best weight cuts I’ve ever had. The recovery was excellent. On the day of the fight I weighed almost 82 kilograms (180 pounds). I slept very well.”
“Moicano” then continued his comparison between Dariush and Makhachev.
“Despite being both left-handed, Dariush and Makhachev are very different,” he said. “Islam has more aligned kickboxing than Dariush, and obviously his takedowns and ground control are his strong points and totally different from Beneil. An important detail is that to fight Dariush, I made a point of using jiu-jitsu sparring partners, who attempt takedowns differently. I didn’t use Russian wrestlers or sparring partners.”
To those who criticized him for accepting a fight in less than 24 hours, “Moicano” revealed that when the UFC confirmed that he would be Tsarukyan’s replacement, promotion executive Hunter Campbell made him a generous offer to save in the main event.
“I’ve been in this sport for 15 years, fighting for the dream of fighting for the UFC belt. I would never deny an opportunity like this,” he said. “On top of that, I received financial compensation. I can’t say the amount, but it was a lot of money. I can say I earned a lot more than if I had won the fight with Dariush. We also made an agreement that my next contract [will have new terms].”
“Moicano” made it clear that he never regretted his decision.
“I knew I was facing the fighter who is considered the No. 1 pound-for-pound in the world, but at no point did I feel intimidated,” he said. “I started moving forward, not letting him control the distance and hitting him. You see that he walked backwards. One time he hit me with a cross, which increased my confidence even more .… That was my mistake. Instead of keeping my base, low I started to walk forward, making it easier for him to take me down. In fact, I didn’t even see him shooting.”
Shortly thereafter, “Moicano” made a critical mistake that would ultimately lead to defeat.
“I was using my guard to prevent him from hitting me, then the crowd started booing. I took that energy and decided to try to return to my feet to try to beat him and win the round. When I did the knee shield and he gave me space, he grabbed my head and took the same position that submitted Dustin [Poirier]. Huge mistake. But it was his night, and I have no excuses.”
With no injuries from the fight, “Moicano” revealed that he is already planning to return to ATT next week to resume chasing his dream.
“I want to have the opportunity to fight for a belt again. Will I do it? I don’t know,” he said. “I’m 35 years old. It’s getting more and more difficult. Now I’m just focused on winning my next fight and then winning again.”
“Moicano” ended the video by responding to Paddy Pimblett‘s criticisms.
“Pimblett is talking a lot of s—t, and he could be next,” he said. “This guy has never beaten anyone. He won a (robbery) against Jared Gordon; he beat Bobby Green almost 50 years ago. Watch out motherf—er because if I catch you I’m going to beat you up, and I’m not kidding.”
