Nov. 1 UFC Fight Night Gets Featherweight Banger Main Event

A small cage in a small venue? No problem for these two flamethrowing 145-pounders.

Per Eurosport_NL on Friday, Steve Garcia (18-5) and David Onama (14-2) will square off in the main attraction of UFC Vegas 110. The currently unnumbered UFC Fight Night offering will go down on Nov. 1 inside of the UFC Apex, with featherweights claiming the marquee spot rather than a previously discussed heavyweight encounter between Waldo Cortes-Acosta and Ante Delija. Garcia has since confirmed the bout and its placement on the lineup on social media.

Both 145ers come into this main event unranked on the Sherdog Official Rankings at featherweight, but they are bringing a great deal of momentum on their respective ledgers. Power puncher Garcia went the distance to win for the first time in his thrilling UFC tenure, one that had previously carried on with all six of his wins—including five in a row—coming via strikes. Against Calvin Kattar, “Mean Machine” could not get the job done over three rounds, settling for a one-sided decision over the perennial contender.

This will be technically a step down in competition for “Silent Assassin” Onama, whose last victory came over a ranked adversary in Giga Chikadze. The April decision win put Onama on a four-fight win streak, with his lone stoppage in that stretch a one-hitter quitter against Gabriel Santos in 2023. The three decision victories Onama has earned on this run account for all three of his decision triumphs as a pro.

Big Men Also Enter the Fray

According to MMA Latinoamerica last Friday, Cortes-Acosta (14-2) and Delija (26-6) were getting slotted into the upcoming UFC Vegas 110 event on Nov. 1. At the time, it was suggested that they would be taking the headlining spot. That was not to be the case, as the two big men will toe the line on an evening capped off by the aforementioned featherweight scrap. One week after the MMA Latinoamerica report, the promotion confirmed this pairing.

It has been a methodical but consistent grind for former baseball pitcher Cortes Acosta (14-2), who saw his five-fight win streak come to a halt at the hands of Russian Sergei Pavlovich in August. The Dominican sought a quick turnaround to get back in the win column, as he had previously beaten names like Serghei Spivac, Andrei Arlovski and Ryan Spann on his most recent winning streak. Only nine fights into his UFC career, and “Salsa Boy” has already put himself in the top five (five) for the most decision wins in its heavyweight history.

While Cortes-Acosta needed a slew of wins to encounter top opposition, Delija (26-6) reached the heavyweight top 15 with one concussive performance. Rematching Marcin Tybura in his organizational debut in September, the Croatian put the screws to Tybura, smashing him in just over two minutes to exact revenge. Prior to his UFC pickup, Delija had conquered the 2022 Professional Fighters League heavyweight tourney to claim $1 million and a gold belt. He could not replicate his success in 2023 or 2024.
