What am I going to do when I retire? This is the question that haunts every professional in any field.
In the world of MMA, where athletes have become accustomed to dedicating their entire lives to the rigorous preparation required by the sport, it’s no different. Some become depressed because they lack a goal, others continue training as if nothing has changed, and others start looking for smaller events, all to avoid facing the reality of retirement. This is definitely not the case with Jose Aldo.

“He’s stopped completely. He’s not training muay rhai or boxing. He still shows up here at the gym sporadically to help Ketlen [Vieira] and another athlete of ours who has a fight scheduled,” said Nova Uniao master Andre Pederneiras in an exclusive interview with Sherdog.com.
“Aldo is reading a book a week, his focus now is studying eight hours a day to start giving lectures next year. He doesn’t do anything without being 100%.”
Nova Uniao Updates
Concerning other two important Nova Uniao representatives in UFX, Pederneiras revealed that Ketlen Vieira is making the final adjustments for the highly anticipated fight with Norma Dumont on Nov. 1st at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. That fight could determine the next challenger for the bantamweight title.
“Ketlen is already ready. Interestingly, some years ago, Norma spent some time here at Nova Uniao helping Ketlen in a training camp. Norma even fought in Shooto before arriving at the UFC. The two know each other very well, and it will certainly be a very competitive fight,” Pederneiras said.
The Nova Uniao leader also revealed that former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos is already in the final stages of recovery from knee surgery and will soon be back in the Octagon.
“RDA underwent a very complex surgery and is already in the final stages of recovery. He will be back soon,” he said.
