Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen officially an exhibition boxing match

Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen will meet in the squared circle June 15 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, but it won’t be an official match, National Boxing Council Brazil president Geyza Caryny told MMA Fighting on Monday.

Caryny, the head of the entity that will oversee the main event of Spaten Fight Night, said a winner will be declared, in case of a knockout or if it goes the distance, but it won’t be included to their official records.

The match will be contested at a catchweight of 98kg (216 pounds) and fighters will wear 14-ounce gloves, Caryny confirmed.

Silva is 3-2 as a professional boxer, and Sonnen has never competed in the sport previously. Both fighters have 94 MMA bouts combined, with Silva finishing 20 of his opponents by knockout, and the American wrestler holding seven knockouts to his credit. Silva and Sonnen fought twice under the UFC banner, with “The Spider” defending his middleweight belt twice via stoppage.
