Oscar De La Hoya: ‘As of now, there is no event with Ryan Garcia’ in RIZIN

Oscar De La Hoya is putting the kibosh on Ryan Garcia’s debut for RIZIN.

Garcia was announced to face Rukiya Anpo at RIZIN’s Decade event on Dec. 30, and the promotion even held a press conference featuring both fighters on Tuesday that got heated, especially during their first staredown.

As business was picking up between the two, Garcia’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya put out a statement that he has not signed off on Garcia competing next month, putting the bout in jeopardy.

“Golden Boy Promotions has exclusive rights to Ryan Garcia’s fights,” De La Hoya wrote on Twitter. “The organizers of this event have acknowledged as such and have agreed in writing that our sign-off is needed for this event to occur. As no such sign-off has been given, as of today there is no event with Ryan Garcia.”

Garcia pulled of a stunning upset with a majority decision victory over Devin Haney in April that was later overturned to a No-Contest after one of the most controversial and cerebral fighters in the sport tested positive for Ostarine. Garcia is currently serving a one-year suspension for the failure, although the 26-year-old has denied any wrongdoing throughout the process.
