Patrick Mix is a perfect 11-0 in his career with eight finishes and coming off a Bellator debut where he submitted Ricky Bandejas in 66 seconds.
For Mix, getting that win and proving himself as an elite-level bantamweight was a huge confidence boost.
“I always have so much confidence in myself. I always knew the level I was at because of who I train with, but to go out there and prove it against someone like Ricky was important to me,” Mix said to Sherdog. “I just have similar confidence, the stage being bigger and being on Bellator is the most important for me. The bigger the lights, the more I shine.”
He will get another chance to shine at Bellator 232 opposite short-notice opponent Isaiah Chapman. Mix believes a win gets him right into the title conversation.
“With Caldwell no longer the champion and him being at 145 pounds, so I know the division is open,” he explained. “Juan may come back down, but I am ahead of Ricky and am winning so that is great for me. I feel like a win here gets me in that title mix. I’m Top 3 without a doubt with a win here.”
However, when that title shot will come is unknown. Kyoji Horiguchi is Bellator champion but he is also signed to Rizin, so when he will defend the belt is unknown. Mix plans on winning fights until the promotion has no choice but to give him the title shot.
“I know Kyoji Horiguchi is the champion and is also signed with Rizin so it is a dilemma,” he said. “He is held up, I have no idea when he will defend the belt. I’m just going to gets some win over real good competition and get another finish or two so they can’t deny me the title shot.”
