Pedro Carvalho vs. Daniel Weichel in the works for Bellator 257

A featherweight showdown between Pedro Carvalho and Daniel Weichel is in the works for Bellator 257 on April 16, multiple people with knowledge of the plans told MMA Fighting. Contracts have yet to be signed, but both sides have agreed to it.

Bellator 257 will take place at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., and will be shown live on Showtime.

Carvalho (11-4) re-enters the cage five months removed from his shot at the 145-pound gold, losing to Patricio Freire in a tournament quarterfinal match this past November. The Portuguese fighter won his previous four under the company’s banner, including finishes over Sam Sicilia and Derek Campos.

Weichel (40-12) also fell from the Bellator grand prix in the quarterfinals, losing a five-round decision to Emmanuel Sanchez on that same night. A two-time title contender, Weichel attempts to rebound from a 1-3 run in his most recent four Bellator appearances with his sole victory being a decision over Saul Rogers.

Headlined by a light heavyweight rematch between champion Vadim Nemkov and challenger Phil Davis, Bellator 257 also marks the promotional debut of Anthony Johnson and Yoel Romero as part of the company’s 205-pound grand prix. The lineup also includes Aaron Pico vs. Aiden Lee and Paul Daley vs. Sabah Homasi.
