PFL athletes will now be overseen by a new anti-doping partner. | PFL MMA
After a little more than two years with USADA, Professional Fighters League is moving forward with a new-anti-doping partner.
The organization confirmed to Sherdog on Monday that its anti-doping program will be overseen by the Mohegan Tribe Department of Athletic Regulation, which is led by former Association of Boxing Commissions president Mike Mazzulli. MMAjunkie.com was first to report the news. PFL fighters were reportedly made aware of the change in August. One aspect that must be determined is how the PFL will administer drug testing to its athletes, as that was previously handled by USADA.

“This new program reflects PFL’s continued commitment to athlete health, safety, and an even playing field across all competitions including PFL World Tournament, Champions Series, and PFL’s international leagues, PFL Europe, PFL MENA, and PFL Africa,” PFL said in statement. “With the expansion of PFL’s global footprint, the organization is evolving toward a single, consistent system for all athletes worldwide under the anti-doping oversight of the Mohegan Tribe Department of Athletic Regulation. This change enables the PFL to implement a robust, unified anti-doping system that ensures fairness, transparency, and global consistency for PFL fighters across all leagues and events.”
PFL initially partnered with USADA following a rash of drug test failures during the first leg of its regular season in 2023. USADA also headed the UFC’s anti-doping program from 2015 until the end of 2023, when the Las Vegas-based promotion shifted gears and partnered with Combat Sports Anti-Doping (CSAD).
PFL, USADA End on Good Terms
The parting of ways between the PFL and USADA was much more amicable than it was between the UFC and the anti-doping organization.
“We can confirm the parties have agreed to end the partnership, and we wish PFL, and most importantly, PFL athletes, the best going forward,” USADA wrote in a statement. “We were honored to serve the athletes with a robust, gold-standard program implemented in the unique tournament style format of the PFL.”
