Raja Jackson Arrested, Charged With Felony After Attacking Wrestler

Justice may not always be swift, but it will always prevail.

In August, MMA-fighter-turned-wrestler Raja Jackson—the son of legendary former champ Quinton Jacksonentered the ring at an independent wrestling event in Los Angeles and brutally attacked another wrestler. Lifting up and slamming down the wrestler known as “Syko Stu” or Stuart Smith, Jackson started bludgeoning Smith from above. As a result, Smith was knocked unconscious, bloodied with broken bones and briefly placed into a coma. He has since regained consciousness and been discharged from the hospital.

Public outcry grew about Jackson’s actions that had not received any legal repercussions for several weeks. On Thursday night, TMZ reported that Jackson has been arrested earlier in the day by the Los Angeles Police Department and currently remains in custody on a $50,000 bond. While the remaining details are scarce, Jackson has been charged with at least one felony of unknown designation.

Multiple Parties Weigh in on Punishment Options for Jackson

After the attack, there was no shortage of members of the community that voiced their opinion on what should be done with Jackson. This includes the 1-1 fighter’s father, who suggested that his son should do a small amount of jail time while receiving community service or anger management training. Others like Sean Strickland posited that the 25-year-old should not be imprisoned for what some believe was a wrestling shoot gone wrong rather than something more dire.

The anger from Jackson appeared to stem from a previous interaction he had with Smith earlier in the day. Fellow wrestler Douglas Malo, who helped break up the in-ring melee, even thought it might have been encouraged. When the fighter and wrestler met earlier in the day, Smith struck Jackson in the head with a beer can, although he later apologized for it. Jackson, however, flipped the switch and was ready to coil up and strike—saying something to the effect as he was live streaming most of the day.
