On Thursday, Jackson, son of MMA legend Quinton Jackson, appeared at the San Fernando Courthouse, which is part of the Los Angeles County Superior Court system. According to TMZ, he gave his plea of not guilty to the judge, and did not otherwise respond for comments. The charges, as listed on Tuesday, include one count of felony battery resulting in serious bodily injury, and a second count for misdemeanor battery.

The sentencing guidelines in the state suggest up to four years imprisonment for the former charge, but the L.A. District Attorney is reportedly looking for a roughly seven-year sentence in a “sentence enhancement” due to the serious injuries sustained by wrestler Stuart Smith. Jackson is scheduled to return in court on Nov. 24, and has been released on $50,000 bail following his September arrest.
From Shoot to Real Life
On Aug. 23 during a taping of local wrestling promotion Knokx Pro Wrestling, Jackson attacked Smith in the middle of the ring and delivered a couple dozen seemingly real punches to the downed, unconscious Smith. The wrestler known as “Syko Stu” was immediately hospitalized and remained there for one week for treatment before his release.
The wrestler sustained a litany of injuries including damage to both his upper and lower jaw, a split lip and a broken maxilla—or upper jaw bone—where multiple teeth fell out. He and wife Contessa Patterson have since put out a statement thanking everyone for their support, financially and otherwise. On his GoFundMe, the family has raised nearly $225,000 for “Syko Stu.”
The statement reads as follows:
“Stuart has been released from the hospital and is now home resting. He sustained a serious head injury and was unconscious upon arrival at the ER. His injuries include trauma to both the upper and lower jaws, a laceration to his upper lip, and a fracture to the maxilla bone, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of several teeth.
“He has a long road of recovery ahead, but he remains in good spirits despite everything he has been through.
“We are deeply grateful for all the love and support we’ve received during this time. Thank you to everyone who has contributed in any way—whether through monetary donations, food, flowers, or gifts. Your kindness means more than words can express.
“From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
“With love and respect,
“Contessa Patterson & Stuart Smith (aka SykoStu)”
