According to a report from Atlantico Hoy, the pilot halted takeoff on the taxiway due to “violent behavior” from Kavanagh. The Irish fighter reportedly attacked crew members on the plane “multiple times” prior to takeoff, per a separate report from Canarias 7. (h/t MMAjunkie.com).
That led to the captain calling the Civil Guard to the plane. Upon their arrival, a struggle ensued with Kavanagh, who reportedly had to be arrested using a taser. Kavangh was ultimately transported to an airport holding cell in a vehicle with four officers on board.
Kavanagh spent the night in jail and appeared in court in Telde, Spain, on Tuesday, where she was granted a “provisional release.” An investigation is underway regarding the incident, and Kavanagh is likely to be tried for assaulting a police officer, according to the report.

Spain’s Asociación Unificada de Guardias Civiles (Unified Association of Civil Guards) later released video of officers attempt to subdue Kavanagh on the aircraft.
“We are the only defense of the citizen and we face hand-to-hand combat professionals WITHOUT RESOURCES,” read the AUGC statement that accompanied the video.

The 39-year-old Kavanagh has compiled a 9-7 professional MMA mark while competing primarily under the Bellator banner. She notably challenged for featherweight gold at Bellator 271 in November 2021, when she fell to Cristiane Justino via first-round knockout. The SBG Ireland representative hasn’t competed since suffering a second-round submission defeat to Arlene Blencow at Bellator Champions Series Dublin in June 2024.
