Report: Former Bellator Champ Daniel Straus Hospitalized After Motorcycle Accident

Former Bellator MMA featherweight champion Daniel Straus has been hospitalized following a motorcycle accident in Florida this past Sunday, according to Bleacher Report.

Details regarding the extent of Straus’ injuries were unavailable, but Matt Aptaker, the fighter’s manager, informed Bleacher Report that he is awake and has full movement in his arms and legs. Straus reportedly cannot remember any details regarding the accident.

Straus himself also released a statement: “On early Sunday morning, I was involved in a motorcycle accident. I’m currently recovering and will hopefully be returning to the Bellator cage sometime soon. I appreciate all the well wishes and ask that people respect my family’s privacy during this difficult time.”

The 33-year-old Cincinnati native is a former two-time 145-pound titlist in Bellator MMA. The American Top Team representative regained featherweight gold with a decision victory over Patricio Freire at Bellator 145. After undergoing hand surgery, Straus was submitted in the second round by Freire to relinquish the belt at Bellator 178. Straus last appeared at Bellator 184, where he suffered a third-round submission defeat to Emmanuel Sanchez on Oct. 6.
