Ricky Bandejas Says Bellator 225 Foe Turned Down Fights in the Past

Although Ricky Bandejas is on a two-fight losing streak, he plans to end it at Bellator 225.

The 27-year-old was told by Bellator MMA that he would be on the card, with no opponent given initially, and was surprised to learn it was Ahmet Kayretli. Both Bandejas and Kayretli competed in Cage Fury Fighting Championships around the same time, but never against one another. In fact, Bandejas stated that any time they were offered to fight each other, Kayretli declined.

“They offered [him] to fight me a couple of times [but] he turned it down,” Bandejas said to Sherdog.com. “Now that we are in Bellator he wants it now, who knows why. Maybe he thinks it is in Bellator so it is a higher reward, or that I lost two in a row so I am on my downfall. Who knows, but he will be wrong,” he explained.

For Bandejas, this fight is a must-win, and he is fully aware that he cannot afford another loss inside the promotion, both psychologically and for his employment prospects.

“It is definitely tough. It is important to win them all but now that I am coming off of two losses you don’t want to lose,” he said. “Mentally you don’t want to deal with another loss.”

This year, the New Jersey native made the move to train at American Top Team. In his very first camp with the team, Bandejas claims it has already improved him as a fighter.

“It is awesome. You have the top guys in the world at every weight class. In my weight class alone we have like 30 elite fighters. Every time you get in there they push you. So it helps big time and I’m excited to showcase it,” Bandejas concluded.
