Sean Brady Contemplates Move to Lightweight After UFC 322 Defeat

Sean Brady is realizing he might not be big enough for welterweight.

Brady (18-2) was a favorite against Michael Morales in a potential welterweight title eliminator at UFC 322 earlier this month. However, Morales (19-0) dispatched Brady with a barrage in the opening round to earn a “Performance of the Night” bonus. At 5-foot-9, Brady had an evident size disadvantage against the undefeated 6-foot Ecuadorian.

Brady is now contemplating a move down to lightweight, where he believes he will find more evenly-matched opponents. However, Brady is still open to staying put at welterweight depending on the available matchups.

‘It’s Not a Strength Thing’

“Something I might visit at some point is maybe trying to go back to 155,” Brady said on the ”BradyBagz” podcast. “It would be f—ing very, very hard and it’s not a skill thing, it’s not a strength thing, because I can out strength heavyweights. It’s a dimension thing. I would stack way better against guys who are closer to my height, closer to my size… There’s a lot of good ass matchups at ‘55 that are potentially there, but it also depends on what they want to give me at 170.”

Brady’s only other career loss came against Belal Muhammad in 2022. Brady had since racked up wins over Kelvin Gastelum, Gilbert Burns and Leon Edwards before losing to Morales.
