Stipe Miocic received incredible news about his father moments after winning back UFC title

Aug. 17, 2019 will go down in history as one of the best days of Stipe Miocic’s life.

The Cleveland, Ohio native reclaimed the heavyweight title this past Saturday night with a comeback knockout against Daniel Cormier in the main event at UFC 241 from Anaheim, Calif.

Following a rough start to the fight, Miocic made a vital adjustment going into the fourth round where he began digging to Cormier’s body with a series of punches that eventually paid off. Once Cormier winced in pain from the body shots, Miocic saw the opening to go back over the top and target the head, which then led to the jaw-dropping knockout that led to his re-coronation as a two-time UFC champion.

After the fight was over, Miocic went to the back where he called his father to share the moment with him and that’s when he received some incredible news of his own.

“I’m so happy for you, dad. I got this belt, this is for you OK,” Miocic told his father as revealed in the new Thrill and the Agony video released by the UFC. “My dad just got cleared of cancer, by the way, today.

“How awesome is that right? He acted like it was no big thing. He’s like ‘oh I’m clear’.”

Miocic obviously celebrated the news and along with his championship victory, it made his trip to Anaheim one for the ages.

Meanwhile, the heartbreak on Cormier’s face was undeniable as he suffered only the second defeat of his professional career when he fell to Miocic.

Cormier was notably quiet after the fight but stopped outside the Octagon to tell his son Daniel Jr. ‘don’t cry’ as his children greeted him following the conclusion of the main event.

Cormier has hinted at retirement in recent months but he hasn’t made any decision yet regarding his future following the loss to Miocic at UFC 241.
