Tom Aspinall Reveals Choice for ‘Fighter of the Year’

Tom Aspinall’s best fighter of 2025 has fought only once this year.

Aspinall recently named lightweight champion Ilia Topuria as his “Fighter of the Year.”

“The fighter that stands out for me is Ilia Topuria,” Aspinall said on his YouTube channel. “I just think he is unbelievable.”

Topuria has competed only once this year, when he knocked out Charles Oliveira to win the vacant lightweight title in June. For Aspinall, Topuria’s knockout of Oliveira is also the best knockout of the year. However, the heavyweight champion admits that he might be biased due to the live atmosphere, as he was in attendance for the event.

A Knockout to Remember

“For me, the ones that stand out are the events I was at,” Aspinall said. “So I’m a little bit biased. But Topuria vs. Charles Oliveira, one of the best knockouts I have ever seen live. The atmosphere in there that night was incredible.”

Topuria (17-0) knocked out Alexander Volkanovski last year to win the featherweight title. “El Matador” defended it by handing Max Holloway his lone knockout loss before moving up to lightweight. The lightweight champion is currently taking a short break due to personal reasons. Meanwhile, an interim title fight has been booked between Paddy Pimblett and Justin Gaethje at UFC 324 on Jan. 24 in Las Vegas.
