Ferguson bumped up two weight classes as his teammate representing the 184-pound category was injured. Ferguson claims to have lost to Jones by one point and earned third place in the tournament. Ferguson and Jones allegedly still have a laugh over it whenever they cross paths.
Ferguson Still Jokes with Jones About Wrestling Match
“I wrestled Jon Jones in college,” Ferguson said (via Red Corner MMA). “I lost by one point. I bumped up two weight classes because our 184-pounder got hurt. And I went to nationals at 165 [pounds]. I jumped up two weight classes, and I was weighing in at 175 pounds and wrestling these guys, cutting from 200 to 185. And I took third at nationals that year. And I wrestled Jon Jones at the Cliff Keen national duels and I lost by one point. Almost beat him. So every time we talk to each other, we’re always messing around. He grabbed my glasses one time, he said, ‘You won’t get these back.’ I said, ‘You wanna wrestle?’ He said, ‘No, no, no, here you go.’”

Ferguson was once riding the longest winning streak in the UFC’s lightweight division, which ended with an interim title loss against Justin Gaethje. Ferguson never won a fight again and finally retired last year on an eight-fight losing streak, the longest in UFC history. The former interim lightweight champ recently filmed for the Hype FC show in Thailand and claims to have a boxing match lined up in August.
