Former Ultimate Fighting Championship interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson has battled personal issues recently but claims he is ready to compete again, after meeting with UFC officials in Las Vegas.
“El Cucuy” shared a video from his hotel room in Las Vegas ahead of his meeting, with the caption “I’m back MF’s – Champ S— Only!”
ESPN’s Brett Okamoto confirmed the meeting between the UFC, Ferguson and his management team took place, and that an announcement for his next fight could be imminent.
Tony Ferguson and his new management, Ballengee Group, met with UFC brass in Las Vegas today. I’m told meeting went well, no fight agreed upon yet. But it’s possible things move quite fast from here. Tony is excited to fight, UFC excited to have him back.

Ferguson has not fought since his TKO win over former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis at UFC 229 in October of 2018, in which Pettis was forced to bow out of the fight between the second and third rounds after suffering a broken hand.
The 35-year-old holds notable victories at lightweight over Pettis as well as Rafael dos Anjos, Kevin Lee and Edson Barboza. Never having lost his interim belt in the cage, he is a likely next contender for the winner of the title unification bout between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier currently projected to take place at UFC 242 in Abu Dhabi this September. However, if the newly-energized Ferguson doesn’t wish to wait that long, he has a wealth of opponents to choose from for his return to the ultra-competitive 155-pound division including Justin Gaethje, Conor McGregor and Donald Cerrone.
