In a viral social media post, Chimaev recently claimed that he would beat both Teixeira and Periera on the same night, getting quite a reaction out of the former UFC champion. Teixeira was on camera hitting the bag when the person filming asked if he was training for a fight against Chimaev, to which the retired Brazilian responded that the middleweight needs to focus on “Poatan” before worrying about anything else, although his team is focused on securing a fight with superstar Jon Jones.
“Chimaev? Chimaev has to fight Poatan,” said Teixeira. “First, he needs to get there. We need Jon Jones, we want Jon Jones. Jones is the biggest name. But if Chimaev fights that guy, I bet my house. I’m retired, Chimaev, but I’m around. Mess with me in the hotel lobby, wherever you see me. If you mess with me, I’ll snatch life out of you.”
Periera would then approach Teixeira in the video and issue a challenge to Chimaev for a grappling match between the two. No matter where each side has their current sights set for their next opponent, the rivalry is beginning to grow between the UFC’s middleweight and light heavyweight champion.
Teixeira was the UFC light heavyweight champion and built a record of 33 wins and 9 losses. His main victories were over Ricco Rodriguez, Quinton Jackson, Rashad Evans, Ryan Bader, Thiago Santos, Anthony Smith and Jan Błachowicz. He did his last MMA fight against Jamahall Hill in UFC 283 in January of 2023. He is the head coach of Teixeira MMA and Fitness, being considered the man responsible for the transition of Poatan from kickboxing to mixed martial arts.
