Tyron Woodley Offers to Step in at UFC 249, Targets Colby Covington as Possible Foe

With the highly-anticipated Khabib NurmagomedovTony Ferguson clash likely to be canceled for a fifth time, Tyron Woodley is offering his services to help save UFC 249.

The former welterweight champion revealed on Twitter that he has given his management permission to pursue a spot on the April 18 card. Woodley has targeted longtime rival Colby Covington as a potential opponent.

Woodley was supposed to face Leon Edwards in the UFC London main event on March 21, but that card was postponed due to coronavirus concerns. The promotion is still planning to hold UFC 249, but a venue and location for the event has not been announced. Many states and countries have placed restrictions on travel and gatherings due to the global pandemic.

Nurmagomedov recently revealed that travel restrictions in Russia due to the COVID-19 outbreak would likely prevent him from competing at UFC 249. The promotion is reportedly exploring a new main event that would pit Ferguson against Justin Gaethje instead, but currently nothing has been finalized.
