A matchup of top female flyweight contenders has been booked for Madison Square Garden, as Katlyn Chookagian will lock horns with Jennifer Maia at UFC 244.
The Las Vegas-based promotion initially confirmed the booking to Newsday. UFC 244 takes place in New York on Nov. 2 and also features a heavyweight clash pitting Derrick Lewis against Blagoy Ivanov and a light heavyweight matchup between Corey Anderson and Johnny Walker. A headliner has not been announced for the pay-per-view card.
Chookagian has won four of her last five Octagon appearances. Most recently, the 30-year-old Team Renzo Gracie representative outpointed Joanne Calderwood at UFC 238 on June 8. “Blonde Fighter” also owns flyweight triumphs over Alexis Davis and Mara Romero Borella.
A former Invicta FC 125-pound titlist, Maia has scored back-to-back decision victories over Davis and Roxanne Modafferi after dropping her Octagon debut to Liz Carmouche. The 30-year-old Brazilian has won eight of her last nine professional bouts dating back to 2015.
