Bettors again underestimated Jan Blachowicz, and the UFC light heavyweight champion again cashed as an underdog, outpointing middleweight champion Israel Adesanya in the headliner of UFC 259.
Blachowicz hung in there and gave as good as he got against the middleweight striking specialist, and he sealed championship rounds with takedowns. Scorecards of 49-46, 49-45 and 49-45 came as a surprise to many who thought Adesanya’s early work paid dividends, but one thing was clear: There would not be a new champ-champ.
In the co-headliner, two-division champ Amanda Nunes again showed she is a cut above the rest with a dominant performance over Megan Anderson at featherweight.

Not the way I ever want to win a fight. It was close, competitive and filled with action. I felt the knee was intentional, especially after the ref announced I was a downed opponent, so I didn’t expect to be hit.
