This is the UFC 315 live blog for Belal Muhammad vs. Jack Della Maddalena, the welterweight championship main event Saturday at Bell Centre in Montreal.
Muhammad (24-3, 1 NC) holds the No. 5 spot on MMA Fighting’s Pound-for-Pound list.
“Remember the Name” defends his title for the first time since winning the belt with a dominant performance against rival Leon Edwards at UFC 304 this past July. He was supposed to take on No. 1 contender Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC 310 the following December, but a bone infection in Muhammad’s foot prevented him from making that date. Muhammad is undefeated in 11 straight contests and hasn’t lost since 2019.
Della Maddalena (17-2)—No. 5 at 170 pounds in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings—also enters UFC 315 on a lengthy hot streak, having won 17 straight since losing his first two fights in 2016. The Australian knockout artist landed this opportunity due to Rakhmonov being unavailable due to injury, but he earned it with a 7-0 UFC record and a thrilling knockout of Gilbert Burns at UFC 299. Now, he looks to shake up the Pound-for-Pound rankings by toppling Muhammad.
