Diniz opened the UFC 317 card with a heavyweight bout against promotional debutant Alvin Hines on Saturday in Las Vegas. The Brazilian earned a unanimous decision win to bounce back from his lone pro loss while handing Hines his first pro defeat.
Diniz subsequently detailed his exhibition fight in a hot air balloon this past April. Diniz put on a unique show by participating in a high altitude MMA fight. Diniz fought in a hot air balloon that circled the skydiving capital of the world, Boituva, Brazil, at a height of 5,000 meters. The participants, along with the referee, dove off with parachutes from a makeshift Octagon. Diniz explains that he was lured by the idea as it combined his two biggest passions, fighting and skydiving. Diniz also vows to put on another stunt in the near future, which will be even more exciting.

UFC 317’s Jhonata Diniz Reached Great Heights Earlier This Year
“I just did that because I am a skydiver for more than five years, and I love some adrenaline in my life,” Diniz said at his post-fight press conference.”And when some friend of mine bring this idea for me, I’m say, ‘Man this is the best f—-ing idea that I have in my life.’ Because it celebrates two of the biggest things that I love in my life: fighting and skydive jumping.
“We have some plans for the next three to five months for the celebration this victory of today. And I promise, you will be 10 times more excited than the last one.”
Diniz scored his first six wins inside the first round, which included a Dana White’s Contender Series victory to earn his UFC contract. Diniz racked up two wins in the promotion before dropping a decision against veteran Marcin Tybura in his last outing.
