In this case, the sequel exceeded the entertainment value of the original.
Petr Yan and Merab Dvalishvili garnered “Fight of the Night” honors and $50,000 apiece for their five-round battle in the UFC 323 headliner at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night. While Dvalishvili got the better of Yan in their first meeting in March 2023, “No Mercy” got revenge — and the bantamweight belt — in a hard-fought unanimous decision triumph.
Quick Finishers Rewarded
Elsewhere, Manuel Torres secured a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” check for his quick finish of Grant Dawson in a preliminary lightweight showdown. The Mexican standout dropped his opponent with a timely combination and then finished his victory with a series of hammerfists on the canvas at the 2:30 mark of Round 1.
Finally, Iwo Baraniewski took home the card’s other $50,000 “Performance of the Night” check for dispatching Ibo Aslan in a wild light heavyweight slugfest. The Polish fighter shifted momentum for good when he dropped his Aslan with a right hook at close range, and follow-up punches forced the stoppage 1:29 into the opening stanza.
