UFC Abu Dhabi Bonuses: Knockdown Record Earns Featherweight $50K

Steven Nguyen made history at UFC Abu Dhabi and he’s now $50,000 richer for his efforts.

Nguyen floored Mohammad Yahya six times en route to a stoppage victory after two rounds in a preliminary featherweight affair at Etihad Arena in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi on Saturday. As a result, “The Ninja” received a “Performance of the Night” bonus. The six knockdowns are a new promotional record — the previous best of five was held by Forrest Petz and Jeremy Stephens.

Middleweight Battle Earns ‘Fight of the Night’

Elsewhere, Sharabutdin Magomedov and Marc-Andre Barriault earned “Fight of the Night” honors and $50,000 apiece for their spirited middleweight scrap on the main card. “Shara Bullet” appeared to be cruising when Barriault mangled his opponent’s nose with a massive right hand in Round 2. That increased the overall intensity of the action, but Magomedov took control down the stretch to capture a unanimous decision victory.

Finally, Muslim Salikhov took home the card’s other $50,000 “Performance of the Night” check by making short work of Carlos Leal in a preliminary middleweight matchup. “The King of Kung Fu” needed only to land one shot: an overhand right that immediately ended Leal’s night just 42 seconds into the opening stanza.
