UFC cancels UFC 233 card in Anaheim

The UFC has pulled the plug on its scheduled Jan. 26 event in Anaheim, Calif.

The company announced on Wednesday that UFC 233, which had been a pay-per-view event scheduled for the Honda Center, is no more. ESPN was the first to report the news.

While the UFC will continue to run 12 pay-per-view events in 2019, the next numbered UFC PPV card, on Feb. 9 in Australia, will still be called UFC 234 as originally slated.

UFC 233 was scheduled to be headlined by UFC flyweight champion Henry Cejudo’s title defense against UFC bantamweight titleholder T.J. Dillashaw. But that headline bout was moved to the UFC’s ESPN+ debut card in Brooklyn on Jan. 19.

The card was scheduled to go head-to-head in the Southern California market with Bellator’s Heavyweight Grand Prix finals the same evening at the Forum in Inglewood, Calif.

This marks the second time in 24 months the UFC has scheduled a competing show with a Bellator Los Angeles event in Anaheim, only to pull the plug on the card, as the event originally scheduled to be UFC 208 in Jan. 2016 was also scratched, leaving the Tito OrtizChael Sonnen fight to run unopposed at the Forum.
