UFC Raleigh Bonuses: Perez, Johns, Gravely, Burns Capture $50K Awards

Alex Perez, Brett Johns, Tony Gravely and Herbert Burns received $50,000 bonuses for their efforts at UFC Fight Night 166 in Raleigh, N.C., on Saturday night.

Perez earned a “Performance of the Night” award for his quick submission of Jordan Espinosa in a featured flyweight encounter. The Team Oyama product wasted little time closing the distance and taking down his opponent, where he locked in an arm-triangle choke from half guard. Perez then rendered Espinosa unconscious without clearing his opponent’s legs at the 2:33 mark of the first round.

Elsewhere, Brett Johns and Tony Gravely garnered “Fight of the Night” honors for a grappling-heavy preliminary bantamweight clash. After some back-and-forth battles in the second stanza, Johns was able to secure a rear-naked choke for the submission at the 2:53 mark of Round 3.

Finally, Herbert Burns had a memorable UFC debut, earning the evening’s other “Performance of the Night” check for a knockout of Nate Landwehr at featherweight. Burns threatened with a tight brabo choke early, but when the combatants returned to their feet, Burns landed a counter knee to put his foe away 2:43 into the opening stanza.
