Luana Carolina has lost to the scale again. This time, she didn’t even make it to the fight.
For the third time in her UFC career, Carolina struggled with her weight cut, failing to show up at Friday’s official weigh-ins for UFC Vegas 103. Ag. Fight was first to report Carolina’s preliminary flyweight bout with Montana De La Rosa was canceled, with the news later officially announced by UFC.
A De La Rosa representative told MMA Fighting’s Mike Heck that Carolina “couldn’t even get within five pounds of 126 compared to Montana being on the correct weight, so commission won’t allow. Montana was willing to accept the fight with the girl missing weight.”
Carolina previously registered two egregious weight misses, coming in 2.5 pounds over the limit for a May 2021 bout with Poliana Botelho, and three pounds over the limit for a February 2024 bout with Julija Stoliarenko. She won both of those bouts.
The main event weigh-ins went off without a hitch, with Asu Almabayev being the first fighter to the scale and coming in at 126 pounds. He and opponent Manel Kape both made use of the one-pound allowance for a non-title fight, with Kape also weighing 126.
Kape is currently the No. 10 flyweight in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings, with Almabayev close behind at No. 13. Almabayev is 4-0 in the UFC so far and is stepping in as a replacement for an injured Brandon Royval.
One other fighter missed weight, Lucas Almeida, who came in two pounds over the featherweight limit. It is not yet known if his bout with Danny Silva will proceed at a catchweight and, if so, what percentage of Almeida’s purse will be forfeited as penalty.
