UFC Vegas 19 medical suspensions: Derrick Lewis potentially out until August after knockout victory

Derrick Lewis added another incredible knockout to his resume, but his right hand paid the price for it.

Following his second-round KO of Curtis Blaydes in Saturday’s UFC Vegas 19 heavyweight main event, Lewis was diagnosed with injuries to his right hand and wrist according to an official list of medical suspensions from mixedmartialarts.com. The event at UFC APEX in Las Vegas was overseen by the Nevada Athletic Commission.

Lewis requires an X-ray on his right hand and wrist. If positive, Lewis must receive clearance from an orthopedic doctor or potentially be out of action until Aug. 20.

Blaydes is not listed as having any major injuries and has received a two-month suspension, with no contact until April 7.

Nine other fighters are potentially facing six-month suspensions: Charles Rosa (right hand), Chris Daukaus (right hand), Andrei Arlovski (right foot), Danny Chavez (right foot), John Castaneda (right hand), Nate Landwehr (nose), Shana Dobson (left eye), Jamall Emmers (lumbar), and Jared Vanderaa (nasal bone).

Of note, Emmers is on the suspension list despite not competing at Saturday’s show. He was scheduled to fight Chas Skelly in a preliminary featherweight bout, but did not make the walk to the octagon. Skelly had already entered the cage, but after a delay it was announced on the broadcast that Emmers was suffering from back issues that would prevent him from competing and the bout was cancelled.
