Most Valuable Promotions announced on Wednesday that the fight will now take place at the Kaseya Center in Miami on Nov. 14. The event was originally scheduled for State Farm Arena i Atlanta on the same date.
“New city, same mission, seek and destroy the tank,” Paul said in a press release. “Kaseya Center. Friday, Nov. 14. I’m bringing the heat, and Miami will see me take down this angry elf while the world watches live on Netflix.”
According to a report from USA Today, the bout was not formally approved by the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission. GAEC chairman Rick Thompson said that the promoter, MVP, withdrew its request to hold the event in Georgia.
“I believe it’s in the public’s interest to know that because they’ve been promoting something they should not have been,’’ Thompson.
Meanwhile, Robert A. Sinners, Communications Director for the Office of the Secretary of State, told USA Today that the fight “will not be happening” in Georgia.
Paul, Davis More Than 30 Pounds Apart
The key issue for the Georgia Commission is the weight discrepancy between Paul and Davis. Paul weighed 199.5 pounds for his most recent fight, while Davis checked in at 133.75 for his last bout. Before withdrawing its permit request, MVP had reportedly been seeking a rule waiver to address that difference.
“They probably evaluated a situation, knew that their weight differences were too much,’’ Thompson said.
Press conferences for the fight were initially scheduled for New York on Wednesday and Atlanta on Thursday before MVP announced the cancellation of both events. The first presser is now set for New York on Monday before heading to Miami on Sept. 23. Paul vs. Davis will stream on Netflix.
