Veronica Macedo steps in to fight Ariane Lipski at UFC Sao Paulo

Officials have found a replacement opponent to keep Ariane Lipski on next week’s Sao Paulo card.

MMA Fighting’s Guilherme Cruz confirmed with sources that Veronica Macedo (6-3-1) will step in on short notice for Priscila Cachoeira to fight Lipski (11-5) in a flyweight bout on Nov. 16. Cachoeira was forced to withdraw after testing positive for a diuretic.

This will be Macedo’s third fight of 2019 and a chance to record her first UFC winning streak. The 24-year-old Venezuelan defeated Polyana Viana via first-round armbar this past August to earn her first win in four Octagon appearances.

Macedo was originally booked to face Amanda Lemos in a strawweight contest at UFC Busan on Dec. 21. The promotion has yet to find a new opponent for Lemos.

Brazil’s Lipski, 25, is searching for her first UFC win after back-to-back decision losses to Molly McCann and Joanne Calderwood. “The Violence Queen” joined the promotion on a nine-fight win streak and was a champion at 125 pounds in Poland’s KSW promotion.

UFC Sao Paulo takes place at Ginasio do Ibirapuera and features a headlining light heavyweight bout between Jan Blachowicz and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza. The main card will air on the ESPN+ streaming service.
